The global Research & Development
activities are coordinated and steered from Nunhems head office
in Haelen, The Netherlands. In the division Research &
Development the department Molecular Breeding is responsible for
the development and application of molecular techniques used in
Breeding and Quality Assurance.
For our Solanaceous crops, we are
looking for an ambitious Crop Molecular Scientist,
Solanaceous crops
The scientist will be based at the Nunhems headquarters in
Haelen, The Netherlands
Job purpose
The crop
scientist is responsible for the development of novel traits
and trait concepts based on thorough analysis of public and
privately available genomic and biochemical data; and
through own research. The crop scientist works
interdisciplinary with scientists and breeders in the
Nunhems and Bayer CropScience organization and with external
collaborators.
On Solanaceaous species, the crop scientist is familiar with
research initiatives or initiates projects him/herself.
These initiatives are typically in the area of:

genomics (sequencing, tilling arrays, EST library
development, DNA chips etc.)
-
marker availability/ development
-
metabolome initiatives
-
Biochemical pathways related to input and output traits
Profile
-
Ph.D. in
plant molecular biology or equivalent experience.
-
Have
thorough understanding (quantitative) genetics, of
genotyping, genomic tools (sequencing, BACs, DNA chips,
tilling arrays etc.), and biochemistry.

Have an
understanding of the basics of breeding (Mendel), plant
pathology, and plant physiology.
-
Have a
keen interest to learn what traits are commercially
attractive.
-
Effective
networker with academic scientists of various disciplines.
-
Have the
ability to convince people
-
Experience with working and managing project teams is a
plus.

Pragmatic
mind set
-
Ability
and willingness to work internationally (travel approx. 20%)
