Research
Scientist
Location: Morden, Manitoba

Company, is the world's leading developer and supplier of
advanced plant genetics to farmers worldwide
The Research Scientist is responsible for the development of
maize inbreds and hybrids for the ultra early silage market of
the Canadian prairies. This position will also develop inbreds
and hybrids for the earliest grain markets of southern Manitoba.
Duties/Responsibilities
The Research Scientist,

Is directly responsible for
conducting an applied, field based inbred development
program that will deliver 65-70 RM silage and grain
commercial maize hybrids to the market.

Provides management,
scientific leadership and creativity when initiating,
designing, and executing research projects.

Is self-actuated and will lead
the development program for this emerging market.

Works in conjunction with
research leadership and other scientists to establish and
execute project goals consistent with business unit goals.

Monitors research progress and
meets with participating researchers to identify products
and opportunities impacting the business unit and provides
solutions to problems.

Is effective at communication,
partnership, and knowledge transfer.

Communicates with research
leadership, business unit contacts, on the progress of
achieving product goals and provides recommendations.

Remains current on new
technological developments by participating in professional
meetings, and skills development opportunities.

Implements and monitors safe
working practices.

Hires, provides orientation
and training, supervises, and evaluates employee
performance.

May serve on teams appropriate
to cross project research initiatives.

May contribute to scientific
publications, conferences and patent applications.

Is responsible for annual
budgets.

Travels to off-season nursery
sites in support of the development program.
Educational Qualifications Desired
Ph.D. in
Plant Breeding. 3 years minimum professional plant breeding
experience. M.Sc. with extensive maize breeding experience
will be considered.
Competencies and Experience Desired
Experience in molecular, population and statistical genetics
in an applied breeding program. Experience in maize is
preferred. Familiarity with western Canadian agriculture and
the seed industry a strong asset. A proven ability to work
well in an integrated research environment. Demonstrated
ability to provide program leadership. Strong communication
skills in spoken and written English.
