POSITION:  Research Assistant

Job Location: Marshall, Missouri

In this role the candidate will assist in overseeing daily operations associated with a comprehensive corn breeding and testing program aimed at identifying high yielding hybrids for several geographies.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Corn Testing: organizing plot testing, data acquisition and management, utilization of research equipment such as planters, and combines as well as operation of seed shelling and conditioning systems. 

  • Computer related activities: utilizing hand-held computers for note taking, assisting with database workflows. 

  • Breeding / Nursery Responsibilities: providing support for day-to-day breeding / nursery activities.
    Supervision and training of temporary employees, interacting with and assisting the breeding team, the processing, shipping, and receiving of nursery and hybrid testing materials. Possible travel to winter nursery sites.

  • Site Safety: Adhere and enforce safety policy. Will assist with site safety initiatives. This position may require extended hours during the peak planting, pollinating and harvest seasons.

The successful candidates will possess a BS degree in Ag-related field or BS degree and 3+ years experience in Ag research. Basic knowledge of crop production and farming practices as well as farm equipment operation and repair. Individual leadership skills including excellent organizational, communication and record keeping skills. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary corn research team. Have a Commercial Driver's License or the ability to obtain one.

In addition to our standard background check and substance abuse test, this position is subject to a driving record background check (i.e. DUI/DWI, moving violations, accidents, license suspension, etc.). An offer of employment for this position is contingent upon passing all three tests.
