Assistant

Responsibilities:
-
Schedule, plant, inoculate,
evaluate, analyze and interpret results for routine disease
screens.
-
Assist with field trials
including sowing, transplanting and supervising contract
labor; evaluating trials and analyzing data.

Assist with processing disease
samples including isolation of causal agent, confirmation of
Koch’s postulates and recording of information into
pathology database.
-
Maintain culture collection,
re-isolate control strains as needed and enter new isolates
into culture collection database.

Maintain seed inventory
including conducting annual review of inventory, identifying
lines for increase and recording information for new
productions into database.
-
Order and maintain inventory
of laboratory and greenhouse supplies.

Operate, maintain and
troubleshoot equipment related to program including
incubators, growth chambers, spectrophotometers, autoclaves,
balances, pH meters, shakers and other laboratory equipment
as needed.

Perform a variety of
laboratory functions including preparation of media and
buffers, increase and quantification of inoculum, DNA
extraction, PCR and other duties as assigned.

Assist with development of
annual test plan for breeders and participate in mid-year
review of the plan.

Interact with a variety of
customers and support groups including breeding, sales, new
trait developers, QA seed health, inside farming,
facilities, outside farming, technology development and
foundation seed.

Actively participate in ESH
programs on-site.
Required
Experience/Education/Attributes:
-
BS degree in a biological
science or related field.
-
Knowledge of MS Office (Excel,
Access, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
-
Strong organizational skills.
-
Detail oriented.
-
Ability to work independently
or as a member of a team.
-
Receptive to changing business
needs
Desired
Experience/Education/Attributes:
-
Knowledge of molecular biology
techniques.
-
Ability to multitask.
-
Previous plant pathology
experience, with emphasis on evaluation of disease
resistance screens
