POSITION:
Research
Associate, Cucumber Breeding Program
Location: Felda, Florida
Monsanto, an Ag industry leader creating scientific
breakthroughs around the world, is seeking a Research
Associate to work on a team to assist in running a cucumber
breeding program.
Responsibilities:
-
Set up
field and greenhouse trials.
-
Organize
sowing, transplant, pollinate, harvest and seed processing.
-
Observe
plant materials in field and greenhouse and enter trait data
into computer.
-
Manage
field inspection paperwork.
-
Organize,
package and send seed shipments with appropriate
documentation and phytosanitary paperwork.
-
Update,
analyze and assist in management of breeding records in a
computer database.
-
Supervise
technical, seasonal and/or contract laborers.
-
Coordinate projects with other breeding and support
programs.
-
Some
domestic and international travel may be required.
Required
Skills/Experience/Attributes:
-
BS in
Horticulture, Plant Science or a related field; MS
preferred.
-
Basic
understanding of plant breeding and genetics.
-
Ability
to work outdoors or in greenhouses, sometimes under extreme
weather conditions.
-
Excellent
organizational skills and ability to prioritize and
multitask.
-
Extensive
knowledge and skill using computers.
-
Knowledge
of Excel and/or Access and the ability to learn new
programs.
-
Attention
to detail with good communication skills.
