Event Coordinator

28 species and some 2,500 varieties. With more than 1,300 people
Nunhems is present in all major Vegetable Production areas in
the world.
This position would be located in Bilaspur, Gurgaon, India.
Primary purpose of the job would be responsibility to
manage the development activities of GM-material by identifying
elite event(s) which have optimal phenotypic expression in terms
of desired trait coorperating with the breeder on the agronomic
performance of the lines and hybrids, by coordinating all GM
activities (including field trials, transport, crop/seed
productions, sampling and disposal of GM material) and by
confirming Plant Product Integrity to GM and conventional
material of the same crop. All activities to be performed in
compliance with National as well as Nunhems/Bayer Regulatory and
stewardship guidelines. Elite Event Coordinator’s role is not
only selecting critically the agronomic superiority in terms of
the trait but also seeing the trait stability in different
genetic backgrounds under various environments. Once the EE is
selected this responsibility will continue as coordinator for
all activities concerning regulatory trials related to seed
productions, cleaning, sampling, transport, disposal and storage
of GM-material. For all activities with GM material the EEC has
to act compliant with the Nunhems/Bayer Biosafety and QA
procedures/SOPs which include national Indian guidelines. The
person will work closely together with the breeders for testing
the performance and producing seed and plants of GM-material.
The breeders will do the breeding and the EEC will coordinate
and supervise all GM aspects of these programs.
Major Accountabilities
- Coordinate the growing of
all GM material in the right season and at right location in
contained facilities and confined field trials following the
regulatory guidelines. The final responsibility of the
proper management of the GM material will be with the EEC.
- Coordinate, with the help
of entomologist, the infestation of all the plants with DBM
and other insects.
- Take DNA samples from all
the plants with the help of molecular biologist and ensure
Plant Product Integrity of GM material at every level during
and after the Elite Event selection.
- Coordinate the
multiplication of the seed of selected plants for next
generation based on the insect damage (trait performance?)
and molecular data.
- Coordinate trialing at two
or three different environments to confirm stability of
trait performance of elite event.
- Coordinate the evaluation
of trait performance in test hybrids with good combining
lines. This work will be done together with the responsible
breeders.
- Coordinate backcrosses
with different genetic background inbred lines and observing
the expression level, stability of expression and advice the
breeder on the per se performance.
- Work together with the
breeder in developing new hybrids with new converted inbred
lines to observe the expression and performance.
- Maintain the plant product
integrity regarding adventitious presence in non-GM cabbage
and cauliflower material.
- Ensure stewardship in
developing new hybrid combinations and new inbred lines with
better agronomic traits.
- Coordinate the
implementation of Stewardship Programs in R&D and support
the integration of Quality Management Systems in the cabbage
and cauliflower in R&D programmes and in the rest of the
organization .
- Coordinate the integration
of documentation systems to ensure that the right document
is “in the right place for the right people” and make sure
that documents are authorised, identifiable, legible and
available for use.
- Responsible for central
seed storage.
Applicant should possess
- M. Sc or PhD in
breeding/agronomy/biotech with good genetics or molecular
background and following experience & skills
- Three to five years
experience in the seed business, especially in breeding and
/or agronomic trials.
- Knowledge of GM and
molecular techniques
- Having participated in all
BCS training programs for working with GM material
- Good people management
skills.
- Strong analytical
background.
- Pro-active
decision-making.
- Strong communication
skills, both verbal and written.
- Able to communicate in
English.
