PROJECTS COMPLETED AT BANGALORE GENEI

 Identification of basmati and non-basmati varieties using microsatellite markers.
The objective of the project was to analyze adulteration in basmati varieties.100 brands of basmati varieties was procured from different parts of the country and analyzed for non-basmati adulteration using microsatellite markers using Genetic Analyzer tool of Applied Biosystems.

 Seed Purity Testing using Microsatellite Markers.
The objective of the project was to check the Genetic purity of cotton seeds using Microsatellite markers.

 Development of a Multiplex PCR Assay for Rapid Detection of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus
In this study, we developed a multiplex PCR assay, which allows the rapid detection of S. aureus and CNS and their associated methicillin-resistance partner. The multiplex PCR assay developed was successful in identifying S.aureus using Staphylococcus-genus specific primers and methicillin-resistance strains by primers targeting the mecA gene and primers targeting the FemB gene.

 DNA fingerprinting using RAPD for almost 50 vegetable crops.
The objective of the project was to detect polymorphism between control and treated plants varieties of the same lines.

 Genetic relationships among ginger based on ALPL markers
The objective of the study was to understand the genetic relationships between and within ten verities ginger of by using AFLP Marker.

 Genetic relationships among jute based on ALPL markers
The objective of the study was to understand the genetic relationships between and within ten verities jute of by using AFLP Marker.

PROJECTS COMPLETED AT AVESTHAGEN

 Construction of Micro-satellite Markers in Cotton for Marker Assisted Selection and Breeding
The objective of the project was to develop 100 unique microsatellite markers in 16 varieties of cotton for breeding purpose. The developed microsatellite markers were successfully tested on the16 cotton varieties provided by the client.

 Engineering secondary metabolite biosynthesis in medicinal plants
The objective of the project was to Enhancement Of colchicines, forskolin and other medicinally important secondary metabolites in Gloriosa superba L. and Coleus forskohlii.

 Development of test methods and protocols to analyze DNA product. And Quantitation of different forms of DNA in various mixtures
The objective of the project was to develop standard operating procedures for estimation and quantitation of various forms of plasmid in different mixtures of concentration.

PROJECTS COMPLETED DURING M.E., AND M.SC., PROGRAMME

 Detection of Salmonella Spp using PCR Techniques at Industrial Toxicology Research Center, Lucknow.
A 236bp DNA fragment of Hin/H2 region that is specific for Salmonella was amplified using primers designed by Way et al with sight modification. The method was highly specific and sensitive for detection of Salmonella in contaminated foods.

 Studies on Food Application of Beet Hairy Root and shoot Cultures of Beeta vulgaris at Plant Cell Biotechnology Laboratory, CFTRI, Mysore.
The pigments of red beet, Beeta vulgaris warrants investigation as food additives. Betanine a natural pigment is used in foods
