Albany, Oregon
March 12, 1998

Advanta Seeds Pacific, Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of the following varieties to it's product portfolio for 1998. ASP is committed to supplying top quality varieties developed through applied research and quality production.

TURF

FAIRFAX KENTUCKY BLUEGRASS

Fairfax is a top rated Kentucky bluegrass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program. Fairfax was highly rated for wear tolerance, sod tensile strength and drought recovery making it ideal for the most demanding areas. It quickly greens up in the spring, and holds a deep rich color throughout the growing season. Fairfax has shown excellent disease resistance including, but not limited to, necrotic ring spot, stripe smut, leaf spot, stem rust, fusarium blight and dollar spot.

Fairfax has performed well throughout the cool season area of adaptability. Because of its excellent turf qualities, Fairfax is suited for golf courses, sod production, sports complexes, home lawns and commercial properties.

ASP4OO PERENNIAL RYEGRASS

ASP is proud to present its new variety of turf type perennial ryegrass. ASP4OO was selected for improved turf density and fine leaf texture plus its improved disease resistance, particularly to stem rust and brown patch. In addition, ASP4OO has shown improved resistance to fusarium patch, dollar spot, pythium, red thread and leaf rust.

ASP4OO was bred for high levels of fungal endophyte to ward off surface feeding insects such as billbugs, sod web worm, armyworms, chinchbugs and some species of aphids. ASP4OO's high level of endophyte plus its outstanding turf qualities makes it suitable for blending with other turf type perennial ryegrass varieties or mixing with Kentucky bluegrass and fine fescue.

FORAGE

ASP adds forage BRASSICAS to its forage product line up. In order to offer the farmer a more complete choice of forage varieties, ASP is making available five forage Brassicas.

Two Stubble Turnips, Samson and Dynamo, one Kale, Pinfold and two Forage Rape varieties, Hobson and Interval are all exclusively made available for the USA through ASP by one of the leading European forage Brassica breeders, Sharpes International in England.

These varieties are utilized for their fast growing capabilities and supplying more dry matter feed than any cool season forage grass These species are especially well suited for supplying summer feed when cool
season grasses slow down. Another very attractive feature is the possibility of Winter-stock feeding in the Fall and early Winter.

Brassica is the ideal product for crop rotation.

MOLISTO HYBRID RYEGRASS

ASP adds Molisto Hybrid Ryegrass to its forage product line-up. In order to offer the farmer a more complete choice of forage varieties, ASP is introducing Molisto, a tetraploid hybrid ryegrass.

Hybrid ryegrass is a cross between Italian ryegrass and perennial ryegrass Molisto is a variety that combines the yields of the best Italians with the persistency derived from perennial ryegrass, with excellent yields into the second year.

UK trials reveal that Molisto has very good midseason digestibility. It's persistency results in better winter-hardiness than Italian ryegrass. Molisto has increased palatability due to its excellent disease resistance, higher sugar content, and high digestibility resulting in improved rates of weight gain or milk yield.

MONGITA DIPLOID PERENNIAL RYEGRASS

ASP adds Diploid Perennial Ryegrass to its forage product line-up. In order to offer the farmer a more complete choice of forage varieties, ASP is introducing Mongita, a diploid perennial ryegrass.

Mongita is very similar to Aubisque, in maturity and in many other aspects such as persistence, winter hardiness and Spring growth. Compared to another proven ASP variety Citadel, Mongita has an increased Spring growth and increased Summer yield potential. Based on the Scottish Agricultural College trials Mongita shows excellent yields under both conservation and grazing management. An important advantage of diploid ryegrass is that they tend to form a sward that is more dense then tetraploid ryegrasses.
