Favorable data continues to be reported about Ampac
Seed Companys Pasture Perfect(R) forage varieties. New Zealand
recently reported lamb gains exceeding 11% when sheep grazed on Tekapo
orchardgrass. Similarly, Indiana farmers reported milk gains exceeding 7 lbs/day
in 1998, when cows were switched to grazing fields containing Tonga tetraploid
perennial ryegrass. Both Tonga and Tekapo are chief components in many Pasture
Perfect(R) mixtures.Ampac developed the
Pasture Perfect(R) program last year after seeing a considerable lack of standards placed
on forage mixtures. Both dealer and farmer have very little information available to help
them select improved forage mixes, especially for grazing. By working in conjunction with
distributors, dealers, agronomists, extension agents, and farmers throughout the country,
Ampac develops regionally specific Pasture Perfect mixtures. Mixtures utilize at least 70%
improved varieties. Improved varieties are those exceeding common
varieties in palatability, feed value,
digestibility, grazing and/or yield. All are endophyte-free and produce highly palatable
forage.
We know the need is great, especially with many forages
to choose from and no standards says Jonathan Rupert, Ampacs Product
Development Manager. With Pasture Perfect, farmers can actually see results. When I
received that first phone call last spring from an Indiana salesmen, I was thrilled. He
said his farmers were reporting 7+ lbs more milk a day after switching their cows
to new Pasture Perfect(R) fields. Rupert adds To provide this type of real,
measurable value to the farmer is very important to us.
