New Maxicrop seed treatment helps boost yields by nearly 1T/ha

Bio-stimulant specialist Maxicrop International is launching a new cereal seed treatment to enhance crop rooting and establishment at the NIAB Varietiest and Seeds Day (June 30).

Across independent trials, Maxicrop Viva has increased root growth by between 10 and 38%, and when backed-up by the follow-up Maxicrop Triple 'Crop Health Programme', provided average yield increases of 0.86t/ha.

"Based on wheat at £80/t, this 10% increase boosts gross margins by £52/ha," calculates the company's Technical Manager, Dr. David Pattison.

Maxicrop Viva is a natural bio-stimulant and encourages soil microbe activity around the developing root. this bacterial activity in turn releases more nutrients from the soil reserves, prevents antagonistic pathogen attack, and provides growth stimulating compounds.

"When backed by an application of Maxicrop Triple within six weeks of drilling, this provides a vital increase in early plant growth."

"Two further 1.51/ha sprays, applied at early stem extension and full ear emergence, will help keep stress at low levels, allowing the plant to fulfil more of its potential," claims Dr. Pattison.

Across five trials by independent trial specialists NDSM, the whole Crop Health Programme raised thousand grain weights of Riband from 44.3 to 46.1g and improved specific weight from 66 to 67.1kg/hl.

Maxicrop Viva seed treatment is expected to cost around 2p/kg of treated seed.
