Lindsay, Ontario
April 6, 1998

Pickseed Canada, Inc., a major North American Seed Company, has been selected as one of the Top 50 Best Managed Privately Owned Companies in Canada. Canada's "50 Best Private Companies Award" is a national competition that is designed to recognize and honour private Canadian companies that have implemented best business practices. Arthur Anderson, Canadian Airlines, CIBC, The Financial Post and Le Groupe Mallette Maheu sponsor the award. Recipients of the award were featured in the December 113, 1997 edition of the Financial Post.

The criteria used in selecting the "50 Best" included management techniques, customer service, employee communications, strategic planning, financial stability, export success and the rates of growth in sales and profitability.

Pickseed's success has been the result of communicating with the customer to determine the wants and the needs of the user. Working from those needs, the research department develops new products; production produces high quality, pure seed; marketing promotes each product, and the sales team presents the products to the user. Through this approach, Pickseed is in a true partnership with its customers.

At a special dinner held in Lindsay March 26, 1998, John Hughes from Arthur Anderson presented a plaque to the company. Tom Pick, President, and Martin Pick, Vice-President of Pickseed presented each staff member with their own plaque in recognition that the "50 Best" Award is a measure of the quality of the work of each staff member. "We are honoured to have been selected; however, we are challenged to do even better. We realize this is really what this competition is all about", stated Martin Pick.
