has
announced that the company has taken an option on a site in the Iowa State University
Research Park for the purpose of constructing a world class biotechnology research
facility. This intention demonstrates ExSeed Genetics commitment to being a world
leader in research and development of output traits in grains.
"The new facility will house all strategic research functions of ExSeed,"
said Mark Scholl, President and CEO, "as well as a number of support services
including nutrition science and regulatory affairs."
"We are very pleased that the management and board of ExSeed Genetics has
responded so positively to proposals by I.S.U. and the state of Iowa to expand their
research facilities in Ames," said Governor-elect Thomas J. Vilsack. "The
products and processes offered by ExSeed Genetics, and many other outstanding Iowa
businesses, are assisting Iowa in becoming the food capital of the world."
"Value-added agriculture is a key component of our continued economic growth, and
ExSeed is the newest member of Iowas dynamic agricultural system," stated
Governor Terry E. Branstad.
The final details of the project will be determined shortly, and are subject to finance
and economic incentive packages currently being worked through between company officers
and various local and state officials.
Dr. Martin Jischke, Iowa State University President said, "We have in Iowa and at
Iowa State University what ExSeed needs to be successful. Iowa has a strong foundation in
agriculture and Iowa State has many key resources including talented students. Thanks to
ExSeed, many more of these students will have opportunities to stay in Iowa and pursue
careers in agriculture."
Majoy Ted Tedesco added, "We are excited about the opportunity to have ExSeed
develop a major research center in the Ames community."
"This announcement is a catalyst for the development of phase II of the park. The
ExSeed Genetics building will serve as a grand entryway into the park. We believe the
research conducted at ExSeed and at ISU will attract other firms to establish research
operations here," says Russ Cross, Chair of the ISU Research Park and President of
the Ames Economic Development Commission.
