| Roundup Ready Corn Garst Seed Company announces the release and availability of three new Garst
Roundup Ready corn hybrids for the 1999 growing season. The three new Roundup Ready (RR)
hybrids, Garst 8756RR, 8557RR and 8349RR
combine the highly effective Roundup and Roundup Ultra herbicide resistance with top
performing Garst genetics.
"Were very excited about adding the Roundup Ready
trait to our herbicide-resistant product offerings," says David Witherspoon.
"Following Garsts own technology guidelines, we focused on
incorporating the Roundup resistance into some of our top-yielding, high performance
genetics. And these three hybrids have proven themselves and were ready to move them
into the market."
The three new Garst Roundup Ready corn hybrids include Garst
8756RR, 8557RR and 8349RR and cover the early, mid and full season maturity ranges that
are preferred by Corn Belt growers.
Garst 8756RR is a tall, rugged 101 day GRM
hybrid,
Garst 8557RR is a medium-tall, top yielding 109 day GRM hybrid,
and
Garst 8349RR is a top-performing, full season 113 day GRM hybrid
designed to get the most out of a long, weed-free growing season.
"We were very, very pleased with the yield results
weve seen with our first Roundup Ready corn hybrids that were out in evaluation
trials this past crop year," explains Gene Kassmeyer, Corn Product Manager for Garst.
"Theyve met our goals for both yield performance and full-season plant
stability while also adding the Roundup herbicide flexibility. We think our customers are
really going to like the overall agronomic package that our breeders have enhanced with
the Roundup resistance technology."
Roundup herbicide was introduced in the United States in l976
in premium weed control markets especially for controlling tough perennial weeds in a
broad set of crops, trees, nuts and vines. Due to its effectiveness in controlling most
major weeds, crop growers have embraced its effectiveness and have discovered some
creative methods to make it part of their crops weed control program.
