Smith Seed Services releases two new tall fescues

July 25, 2002

Titan Ltd. Tall Fescue - Specifically bred for improved brown patch resistance, heat tolerance, and drought resistance, Titan Ltd. may be one of the most satisfying new tall fescues available. Better
resistance means less disease, fewer pests, reduced chemical and water usage.

As part of the breeding history, Titan Ltd. germplasm was intentionally inoculated with six strains of brown patch in Missouri. Only plants that had excellent resistance to brown patch, heat tolerance, and stress tolerance were carried on to the next development stage. Titan Ltd. offers excellent upright growth, attractive rich-green color, superior disease and heat tolerance, stress resistance, pest-resisting endophyte and excellent quality. Homeowners and professionals alike will be irresistibly satisfied with a new Titan Ltd. lawn!

Rendition Tall Fescue - Rendition tall fescue has been bred to provide a dense, very dark green and exceptionally attractive turf. Unlike tall fescues of old, ones that have wide, coarse blades and open stands, Rendition produces a thick, dense lawn, with soft thinner leaves. Rendition is both nice on the eyes and the feet!

Rendition is a result of selections and synthetic crosses from 22 elite germplasms collected at Rutgers University in Maryland and at the breeder's Oregon research farm. Further screening of the offspring
plants was made based on very dwarf growth habit, turf quality, straight growth form, very dark green color, rust resistance, stress resistance and disease resistance. Rendition produces healthy turf! Initial trial results are indicating that Rendition performs well from Coast to Coast. At independent trials on sod farms in both Fresno, CA and Dayton, OH, Rendition was amongst the very top varieties in both turf quality and color.
