Saskatchewan Wheat Pool
and Becker Underwood
are pleased to announce the registration of a new line of seed
inoculants for peas and lentils.
The Pool/AgPro-branded inoculants, which enhance the plants'
ability to fix nitrogen, have been developed using rhizobia, a
natural bacteria well-suited to western Canadian growing
conditions. The new inoculant lines provide producers with a
cost-effective method of increasing crop productivity, while
reducing the need for fertilizer.
"This new line of products ensures Pool and AgPro customers have
access to high-quality, economical products produced right here
in Western Canada," said Monte Kesslering, manager of the Pool's
Seed Business Unit. "We have worked closely with Becker
Underwood in the past on chickpea inoculant and look forward to
expanding and strengthening our relationship."
Four new products have been designed to meet the individual
needs of farmers:
- Liquid inoculant - a
ready-to-use liquid formulation packaged in a convenient
100-bushel package. This size matches to a single package of
JumpstartTM, a product that helps plants access phosphate, for
farmers who want to use both products on their peas.
- Granular inoculant - a
solid core-based inoculant that provides an economical
alternative to farmers who prefer working with granular
formulations through specially equipped air seeders and air
drills.
- Self Sticking inoculant - a
peat-based product that is applied directly to the seed prior
to seeding. The product is pre-sterilized ensuring high levels
of the rhizobia in each package. Each pouch will treat 22
bushels of either pea or lentil seed.
- Powder inoculant - a low-cost
product designed for use with slurries to ensure adequate
adhesion to the seed.
The newly branded Pool/AgPro
products will be produced by Saskatoon-based Becker Underwood, a
leading manufacturer of bio-agronomic and specialty chemical
products, and available exclusively through Pool and AgPro
facilities in Western Canada.
"We are pleased to be partnering with the Pool, a company that
shares our commitment to quality and customer service," said Ben
Libby, sales and marketing director for Becker Underwood. "These
products provide value and convenience to western Canadian
farmers and reinforce our commitment to
providing market-leading products and technologies globally."
