J. Erik Fyrwald named Group Vice President - DuPont Agriculture & Nutrition; Des Moines will become agricultural business headquarters

Wilmington, Delaware
June 25, 2003

DuPont today announced that J. Erik Fyrwald has been named group vice president - DuPont Agriculture & Nutrition, effective July 1.

This business grouping includes DuPont Crop Protection; Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.; and DuPont Nutrition & Health, which comprises The Solae Company, DuPont Qualicon, Liqui-Box, and Food Industry Solutions. DuPont Agriculture & Nutrition has approximately $5 billion in revenues.

Fyrwald, 43, succeeds Howard L. Minigh, who is resigning from the company to pursue other interests.

Concurrent with Fyrwald's appointment, Des Moines, Iowa, will become the headquarters of DuPont Agriculture & Nutrition. The current headquarters is Wilmington, Del.

"Erik has a unique combination of product, manufacturing and marketing knowledge, along with a strong understanding of the value chain for the global agriculture and nutrition industry," said John C. Hodgson, DuPont executive vice president. "Our businesses have solid fundamentals, broad and deep talent, strong performance, and promising growth prospects. Erik and his team will build on this foundation as they lead DuPont Agriculture & Nutrition to its next level of growth."

Hodgson said that having Des Moines as the business headquarters will enable DuPont to be closer to its core customer base of growers and food processors, many of whom are located in the U.S. Midwest. Des Moines also serves as the headquarters for Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.; is the primary location of the company's plant genetics research and development programs, including biotechnology; and is closer to The Solae Company, a DuPont joint venture with Bunge that is based in St. Louis, Mo.

Fyrwald is currently vice president and general manager - DuPont Nutrition & Health, a position he assumed in September 2000. He joined DuPont in 1981 and has held a variety of sales, marketing and management positions for DuPont's engineering polymers and automotive businesses, including an assignment in the Asia Pacific region. Fyrwald also served as vice president - Corporate Plans, and led the development of the company's e-business efforts.

Fyrwald has a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware.
