February 18, 2004

Bill Bettis has been appointed as Germain’s Technology Group’s Project Manager for its Spectrum ProTagä Polymer Technology. Bill joins the team at Germain’s Technology Group – Coating Systems and Materials Inc, headed by Peter Marks.

Bill will focus on the coordination of the positive development work carried out over the past year and take the ProTag technology to full commercialisation later this year.

Bill has an M.S. degree in Plant Science from the University of Idaho. His career took him to the Monsanto Company, where he acquired a deep understanding of seed-applied crop protection products, developing and implementing a wide range of seed treatment trial programs.

ProTag is a unique and novel approach to seed identity protection. Seed coated with Spectrum ProTagä Polymer is immediately identified by a unique taggant signature detected via a reading device no larger than a standard mobile telephone.  ProTag provides an immediate identity response to field sown, bagged or bulk seed queries and offers a first line of defence in the protection of intellectual property, as well as being a useful tool in inventory management and audit traceability.

Germain’s Technology Group, a member of Associated British Foods plc, provides seed enhancement and coating technology services from nine world locations.
