Mycogen to offer hybrids for ethanol production - Eight hybrids designated as processor preferred
Indianapolis, Indiana
January 30, 2004

Mycogen Seeds announces that eight of its corn hybrids have been designated as Processor Preferred® High Fermentable Corn (HFC) hybrids.

Processor Preferred brand has been established to offer compositional value to ethanol processors and additional value in new markets for growers, says David Borgmeier, Marketing Specialist, Mycogen Seeds. As part of the Processor Preferred program, Mycogen Seeds is creating hybrids that are characterized and selected to meet both grower and processor needs. “These Processor Preferred High Fermentable Corn hybrids can deliver higher levels of fermentable starch, allowing dry mill ethanol plants to obtain higher ethanol yields for greater profit potential,” he says.

According to a recent survey by the USDA, roughly 20 percent of the corn crop will be used for ethanol production by the year 2012. “This program allows growers to plant our top-performing hybrids while fulfilling the needs of ethanol plants, which are under increasing demand,” he says. In addition to these eight HFC-recognized hybrids, Mycogen is currently testing more than a dozen additional hybrids for this designation.

Mycogen Seeds products are also a part of the Fuel Your Profits program, which is designed to increase the profit potential of corn growers and ethanol plants. “This program provides mutual benefit to corn growers and ethanol plants, and allows both groups to help grow the ethanol industry sensibly,” says Chuck Schneider, Channel Manager, Mycogen Seeds.

Growers who participate in this program can become a preferred grain supplier and can be eligible for discounts on General Motors’ E85 flex fuel vehicles.
