Professor Dr. Friedrich Berschauer (53), currently a member of the Board of Management of Bayer HealthCare AG and Head of its Animal Health Division, has been named Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer CropScience AG effective April 1, 2004. He succeeds Dr. Jochen Wulff (64), who will retire after 35 years' valuable service to Bayer. The new Head of Animal Health will be Dr. Gunnar Riemann (45), presently in charge of the Biological Products Division. Riemann will also join the Board of Management of Bayer HealthCare AG.

Friedrich Berschauer was born in Boms, near Ravensburg in southern Germany, on June 29, 1950. He studied agricultural science at Stuttgart-Hohenheim University, subsequently working as a scientific assistant at the university's Institute for Animal Nutrition. After obtaining his doctorate in agricultural science in 1977, he joined Bayer AG in 1980 as head of the animal nutrition department at the Pharmaceuticals Research Center in Wuppertal. He held various other positions with Bayer before becoming head of development in the company's Crop Protection Business Group in 1993.

In 1998 he transferred to the United States, serving as President of the Animal Health Division of Bayer Corporation. In July 2000 he was appointed General Manager of the Animal Health Business Group at Bayer AG. After the reorganization, Berschauer initially was appointed a member of the Bayer HealthCare Executive Committee with responsibility for the Animal Health Division and the Asia-Pacific region. Effective October 1, 2003 he became a member of the Board of Management of Bayer HealthCare AG and the company's labor director.

Since 1987 Berschauer has been working as an adjunct professor at the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim. He is married with three children.

Dr. Jochen C. Wulff has been Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer CropScience since July 1, 2002. After studying and obtaining a doctorate in organic chemistry, he joined the research department of what was then Bayer's U.S. subsidiary Mobay Corporation in 1968. After holding various positions in the Polyurethanes Business Group, both at Mobay and at Bayer's headquarters in Leverkusen, he was appointed manager of a dyestuffs production unit in Leverkusen in 1984. He returned to Mobay in 1986 as Executive Vice President Production and Technology, becoming Mobay's President and Chief Executive Officer in 1990. Dr. Wulff left the United States following the reorganization of Bayer's U.S. operations. In April 1993 he was appointed General Manager of Bayer AG's Crop Protection Business Group, which was later successfully realigned and combined with the acquired company Aventis CropScience to form today's Bayer CropScience AG.

This subgroup of Bayer AG has 20,000 employees, annual sales of about EUR 5.7 billion and is represented in 122 countries. One of the world's leading innovative crop science companies, it is active in the areas of crop protection, non-agricultural pest control, seeds and plant biotechnology.

Professor Dr. Friedrich Berschauer (53), derzeit Vorstandsmitglied der Bayer HealthCare AG und Leiter der Division Animal Health, wird zum 1. April 2004 neuer Vorstandsvorsitzender der Bayer CropScience AG. Er tritt damit die Nachfolge von Dr. Jochen Wulff (64) an, der nach 35 Jahren erfolgreicher Tätigkeit in den Ruhestand geht. Künftiger Divisionschef von Animal Health wird Dr. Gunnar Riemann (45), bisher Leiter der Division Biologische Produkte. Er wird zudem dem Vorstand der Bayer HealthCare AG angehören.

Friedrich Berschauer wurde am 29. Juni 1950 in Boms/Kreis Ravensburg geboren und studierte Agrarwissenschaften an der Universität Stuttgart-Hohenheim. Anschließend wurde er dort wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Tierernährung. Nach der Promotion 1977 zum Dr. agr. begann er 1980 seine Laufbahn bei der Bayer AG als Leiter der Abteilung Tierernährung im Pharma-Forschungszentrum in Wuppertal. Nach verschiedenen Stationen wurde ihm 1993 die Leitung des Ressorts Entwicklung im Geschäftsbereich Pflanzenschutz übertragen.

1998 wechselte er in die USA, wo er die Verantwortung für den Geschäftsbereich Tiergesundheit der Bayer Corporation übernahm.
Im Juli 2000 wurde er Leiter des Geschäftsbereichs Animal Health der Bayer AG. Nach der Neuorganisation gehörte Berschauer zunächst dem Executive Committee von Bayer HealthCare an und war verantwortlich für die Division Animal Health und das Geschäft in der Region Asia/ Pacific. Am 1. Oktober 2003 wurde er zusätzlich Mitglied des Vorstands der Bayer HealthCare AG sowie Arbeitsdirektor der Gesellschaft.

Seit 1987 ist Berschauer außerordentlicher Professor an der Universität Stuttgart-Hohenheim.
Er ist verheiratet und hat drei Kinder.

Dr. Jochen C. Wulff ist seit dem 1. Juli 2002 Vorsitzender des Vorstands von Bayer CropScience. Seine Karriere bei Bayer begann er nach Studium und Promotion in der Organischen Chemie 1968 in der Forschungsabteilung der damaligen Bayer-Tochtergesellschaft Mobay Corp. in den USA. Nach verschiedenen Positionen im Bereich Polyurethane – sowohl in den USA als auch im Leverkusener Stammhaus – übernahm er 1984 die Leitung eines Farben-Produktionsbereichs in Leverkusen. Als Executive Vice President für Produktion und Technik wechselte er 1986 erneut zu Mobay und war dort ab 1990 President und Chief Executive Officer. Nach der Neuordnung der amerikanischen Bayer-Aktivitäten verließ Dr. Wulff die USA, um im April 1993 die Leitung des Geschäftsbereichs Pflanzenschutz der Bayer AG zu übernehmen, aus dem nach einer erfolgreichen Neuausrichtung und der Akquisition von Aventis CropScience die heutige Bayer CropScience AG hervorgegangen ist.

Diese neu gebildete Gesellschaft zählt als Teilkonzern der Bayer AG mit einem Umsatz in der Größenordnung von 5,7 Milliarden Euro, 20.000 Mitarbeitern und Vertretungen in 122 Ländern zu den weltweit führenden, innovativen Crop-Science-Unternehmen mit den Tätigkeitsbereichen Pflanzenschutz, Schädlingsbekämpfung außerhalb der Landwirtschaft sowie Saatgut und Pflanzen-Biotechnologie.
