Mycogen expands Processor Preferred lineup: five additional corn hybrids designated for ethanol production
Indianapolis, Indiana
June 7, 2004

Mycogen Seeds announces the addition of five hybrids to its lineup of Processor Preferred® High Fermentable Corn (HFC) hybrids. According to a recent survey by the USDA, roughly 20 percent of the corn crop will be used for ethanol production by the year 2012.

“Our Processor Preferred HFC lineup delivers top-performing hybrids to growers, while fulfilling the needs of ethanol plants, which are seeking increased supplies,” says Chuck Schneider, National Channel Manager, Mycogen Seeds. “The new hybrids expand our Processor Preferred offering to include 10 corn hybrids ranging from 85 to 113 days relative maturity.”

As part of the Processor Preferred program, Mycogen is dedicated to creating hybrids that are characterized and selected to meet both grower and processor needs for ethanol production, Schneider explains. Processor Preferred HFC hybrids can deliver higher levels of fermentable starch, allowing dry mill ethanol plants to obtain higher ethanol yields for greater profit potential.

“The Processor Preferred brand has been established to offer compositional value to ethanol processors and additional value in new markets for growers,” says Schneider. “In addition to a broad relative maturity range, our lineup of Processor Preferred HFC hybrids includes specialty traits such as Roundup Ready®, YieldGard® Rootworm, YieldGard® Corn Borer and LibertyLink®.”

Mycogen Seeds products are also a part of the Fuel Your Profits program, which is designed to increase the profit potential of corn growers and ethanol plants. Growers who participate in this program can become a preferred grain supplier and also be eligible for discounts on General Motors E85 flex fuel vehicles.

“This program provides mutual benefits to corn growers and ethanol plants, and allows both groups to help grow the ethanol industry sensibly,” says Schneider.
