INCOTEC launches new marker technology to protect seed against counterfeiting or illegal multiplication

.

Enkhuizen, The Netherlands
March 22, 2004

INCOTEC has announced that it has developed an invisible marker to protect seed against counterfeiting or illegal multiplication. The company has indicated that it is a very simple and unique marker system that can not be copied by any third parties.

This marker can be applied during the coating of the seed from a thin film coat layer to a real pellet. INCOTEC is claiming that once the seed is treated with the unique marker it can be detected under dark circumstances very easily on the spot in the field by using a special and inexpensive detection pen.

The marker developed by INCOTEC does not have any effect on the quality of the treated seed and is not harming the germination. The product is offered in combination with the existing INCOTEC film coat polymer product line DISCO and sold under the commercial name DISCO CFA. The marker can also be applied on pellets.

Mr. ir. Bob Legro, heading the Technology Research Department of INCOTEC, is indicating: “ These markers have been developed after many years of research and are unique in its kind. The nice thing of this technology is that it is very easy to detect and it can be done by anyone on the spot by using a simple pen which can be carried in your pocket. We are pleased with this new product as it can create unique combinations to recognize seed lots from seed companies using this product. Illegal multiplication of seeds is becoming a bigger problem every year and we believe to have the right answer for companies to protect themselves against these illegal actions´.

INCOTEC is a worldwide leader in coating and seed technology serving the vegetable, ornamental and agronomic seed business.
