St. Louis, Missouri

Monsanto Company today
highlighted the availability of the biotech industry's first
triple trait offering, YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2
technology. The new product will offer corn growers in-seed
protection against devastating corn insects and the flexibility
of herbicide tolerance in one seed.
"Monsanto is proud to support
U.S. corn growers and provide them with a new tool in their
battle against corn insect pests and weeds," said Kerry Preete,
vice president of U.S. crop production for Monsanto. "The
availability of YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2
technology really underscores Monsanto's commitment to providing
growers with tools that can make them more productive and
profitable."
"For years, corn growers have
told us they like the flexibility and convenience of our Roundup
Ready and YieldGard trait technologies, so we looked at ways to
develop a triple trait approach to meet their needs in one
seed," Preete said.
YieldGard Plus with Roundup
Ready Corn 2 technology provides corn producers both above and
below the ground insect protection, and flexibility of herbicide
tolerance. The product's YieldGard Plus technology provides
growers with in-seed protection, allowing the corn plant to
protect itself against the devastating Western and Northern corn
rootworm larvae and the European corn borer. The product's
Roundup Ready Corn 2 technology provides growers with crop
safety and unsurpassed weed control with Roundup agricultural
herbicides.
2005
Availability
YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 technology will be made
available for planting in corn hybrids through Monsanto's
branded seed businesses - DEKALB and
Asgrow - as well as through
licensed, independent seed companies. YieldGard Plus with
Roundup Ready Corn 2 will be available in limited quantities in
2005 with broader product availability in 2006.
All YieldGard Plus with Roundup
Ready Corn 2 hybrids will be treated with a secondary insect
pest seed treatment to offer broad-spectrum control. Growers
that are interested in learning more about the availability of
hybrids containing YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2
technology are encouraged to contact their seed company for more
details.
Insect-Resistance Management for YieldGard Plus with Roundup
Ready Corn 2
An important part of insect-protected corn product stewardship
is practicing insect resistance management to delay the
potential development of resistance by target pests. As a part
of the registration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) requires that growers planting the technology follow an
Insect Resistance Management (IRM) program. The IRM program for
YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 technology is identical
to the IRM program for YieldGard Plus corn.
Product Stewardship for YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2
technology
All hybrids with YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2
technology will be marketed under the Market Choices®
certification mark. This certification mark identifies those
technologies that are fully approved for food and feed use in
the United States and Japan, but are currently lacking approval
in the European Union. Growers that plant Market Choices hybrids
must utilize appropriate markets for this grain including
feedlots, feed mills, on-farm feeding, and grain handlers who
agree to accept the grain.
Growers should contact their
local seed dealers or grain handlers for more stewardship
details. Toll-free information on grain marketing options for
participating elevators is available through the 1-866-SELLCORN
(1-866-735-5267) hotline or by logging on to
www.866sellcorn.com.
