Bayer CropScience announced today that it has purchased the assets of Associated Farmers Delinting, Inc. (AFD), a regional cotton seed production and processing company based in Littlefield, Texas. The acquisition enhances the fast-growing FiberMax® cotton seed business of Bayer CropScience, currently the second largest cotton seed supplier in the United States. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

In acquiring AFD assets, Bayer CropScience gains access to substantial new storage and processing facilities, which better positions the company to meet increased demand for its FiberMax cotton seed varieties. For the last three years, the company has contracted with AFD to process FiberMax cotton seed. Bayer CropScience will maintain the AFD brand name and continue to market certain varieties like AFD 3511RR and AFD 3602RR, which are locally adapted and popular in the southwest.
