USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service launches interactive mapping application for 2002 census of agriculture highlights
Washington, DC
June 3, 2005

USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) released today a new interactive mapping application for the 2002 Census of Agriculture Statistical Highlights. This application provides users the benefit of scaling the maps in order to create regionalized views of the mapped data. It also includes downloadable XML and CSV files of the user's queries.

The application is designed to allow users to query published data from the 2002 Census of Agriculture and displays the data by range across state and county level maps of the United States . This application is generated through the emerging Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format created by Adobe and approved as a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standard for displaying interactive graphics on the Internet.

Interactive mapping is currently only available for the 2002 Census of Agriculture “Table 1: Area Summary Highlights” data. The application can be found at
http://www.nass.usda.gov/SVG/.
