DuPont recently updated
investors on
DuPont Agriculture & Nutrition progress since its
September 14 presentation on the growth strategy and
pipeline for its seed, crop protection and soy ingredient
businesses that generated USD 6.2 billion in revenue in
2004.
The company continues to see strong, balanced growth from
Agriculture & Nutrition in Brazil. Excellent product
performance is driving Pioneer
Hi-Bred International seed sales growth of more than 40
percent over 2004 despite difficult economic conditions in
the region. Introductory sales of biotech soybean varieties
are positioning the company for further growth in that
market in 2006. Crop Protection sales in Brazil are up 7
percent with strong performance, notably in the sugarcane
market.
The Agriculture & Nutrition sales and earnings outlook for
the fourth quarter and full year is unchanged. The segment
is on track for 2005 earnings growth in the high-teens for
its fourth consecutive year.
Agriculture & Nutrition recently achieved a number of key
successes in bringing its pipeline to the market:
-
Herculex® RW
Rootworm Protection and Herculex® XTRA, which
contains both the Herculex® I Insect Protection and
Herculex® RW Rootworm Protection traits,
now have full U.S. regulatory approval. The
approvals allow Pioneer to sell corn hybrids with
these traits in the U.S. for 2006 planting.
Herculex® XTRA guards against a broader range of
insects than other competitive products now
available to growers. The corn rootworm trait
provides excellent root protection and dramatically
reduces adult rootworm emergence. Furthermore,
early harvest results indicate Herculex® RW and
Herculex® XTRA achieved 16-19 bushels yield
advantage compared with corn protected with
insecticides in drought-stressed locations.
-
Herculex® I Insect
Protection received approval for import and
processing for feed use from the EU Commission.
Meaningful imports to the EU of grain from hybrids
with the Herculex® I trait will begin to occur only
after it also has been approved in the EU for "food"
use, which is expected in early 2006. Herculex® I
has already been approved in 12 other countries
around the world.
-
Since September,
DuPont Crop Protection has been granted U.S.
registrations for two new herbicide blends: DuPont™
Affinity™ BroadSpec herbicide for the control of
tough broadleaf weeds in wheat and barley, and
Velpar™ K4, a broad spectrum herbicide for sugarcane
production. Year to date, Crop Protection has
received U.S. registrations for six new herbicide
blends. All are based on patented, proprietary blend
technology.
