Monsanto breaks ground on new corn and soybean breeding facility in Indiana
Evansville, Indiana
August 2, 2006

Monsanto Company broke ground today on construction of a new facility in Evansville, Indiana.

The site will house Monsanto’s corn and soybean breeding groups, and its corn pathology and soybean trait integration groups. These groups will be responsible for developing and testing new corn lines and hybrids and soybean varieties.

“We are excited to be able to grow our business in Indiana,” said Evansville site lead Kendell Hellewell. “This new facility will be an important hub for Monsanto’s breeding research. We see this new location as a key opportunity to address the needs of both our customers and our business.”

The facility will replace the company’s Haubstadt facility located about five miles away. A 24,000-square-foot building will contain office and lab space, and a secondary 13,000-square-foot building will contain equipment, storage and shop space. The buildings are scheduled to be completed March 15, 2007. The site will have a permanent staff of 30, 25 of whom were employees at the Haubstadt facility.

“Monsanto has brought great opportunities to the Evansville area,” said Lt. Governor Becky Skillman. “Their commitment to building a new facility here is more good news for Indiana’s economic comeback.”

Monsanto Company is a leading global provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity.
