Cabrio receives California registration on leafy vegetables, cole crops and leafy greens
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
February 8, 2006

Leafy vegetable and cole crop growers in California now have an effective new option for protecting their crops from diseases that reduce marketability and threaten yields. Cabrio®EG fungicide from BASF has been approved for use in the state.

“Cabrio is a convenient new fungicide tool for California growers to enhance their crop quality by controlling all the major diseases with one product,” says Jerry Minore, marketing manager, vegetable products. The California registration comes after the federal EPA registration in 2004.

Cabrio is effective as a preventative treatment – stopping spores as they germinate, preventing them from infecting plant tissue. Diseases controlled by Cabrio include powdery mildew and downy mildew, as well as Alternaria leaf spot, anthracnose, black leg, Cercospora leaf spot, Rhizoctonia blight, ring spot, rust, white rust, Septoria leaf spot and white leaf spot.

The supplemental label in California covers leafy vegetables, cole crops and leafy greens such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, collards, kale, lettuce, mustard greens and spinach.

Vegetable growers in other states have seen the advantages of better and broad-spectrum disease control. “Cabrio delivers the disease protection vegetable growers need to produce top quality crops and protect yields. It
adds up to a big improvement to a grower’s bottom line,” says Minore.

Cabrio also has a three-day pre-harvest interval for brassica leafy greens and a zero-day pre-harvest interval for leafy vegetables and cole crops which allows harvest flexibility. Good rainfastness is another advantage of Cabrio.
Growers should always use resistance management practices when using fungicides, such as Cabrio. Alternate fungicides with different modes of action and limit the frequency of use in a season.
