The flagship company of Attur-based Rasi Ggroup is in process
to release Bollgard-2 cotton strain to counter 'prodenia'
insects by using Bt technology, Mr M. Ramasami, Managing
Director of Rasi Seeds,
said here on July 12.
The MD further clarified that company has put large-scale
field trials for its Bollgard-2 cotton strain (carrying the
Cry1Ac and Cry2 Ab expressions) in all the nine cotton growing
states in three zones.
Rasi Seeds plans to introduce new Bt cotton strain next year
besides the RCH-2 hybrid variety and would attempt to
incorporate
the Bollgard-2 strain in a few more cotton varieties it has
developed.
Further company has planned to distribute its newly developed
RCH-B-708 hybrid, to meet the demand for quality seeds in the
extra long staple (ELS) cotton varieties.
Mr M. Ramasami commented that growers and cotton consuming
mills who are upset over the steady decline in DCH-32 variety
yield levels are pleading for reinvigorating the ELS variety
either through rejuvenation or developing alternative strains.
Rasi Seeds, with an investment of Rs 6-7 crore are
strengthening its seed research and development facilities to
enlarge its biotechnology activities.
Rasi group is engaged in commercial Bt cottonseed production.
