Spain with 807.569 ha of organically farmed land in 2005 – 10 % more than the previous year – is one of the top countries in the EU, according to a press report from APECPAE, the Catalonian Association of Producers, Processors and Marketers of Organic Food.

The number of processors in Spain increased by 8 % in 2005. Catalonia is the region with the most processors (369) and importers (28). The number of producers there is 683.

On the other hand, Andalusia with 403,361 ha has about half of all Spanish organic land and the most producers (5,159). More than 50 Catalonian organic producers are APECPAE members.

The association is a member of IFOAM and co-founder of the Spanish federation FEPECO.
