Monsanto launches Roundup Ready alfalfa delivering unsurpassed weed control for improved yield and higher quality hay
St. Louis, Missouri
March 2, 2006

Monsanto recently announced the launch of new Roundup Ready® Alfalfa during the World Ag Expo in Tulare, California. Monsanto Marketing Manager for Roundup Ready Alfalfa Chris Peterson says benefits of the new system can help create greater profit opportunities for growers.

“With Roundup Ready Alfalfa system, growers will become familiar with a system that will allow them to produce cleaner, more yield, higher-quality alfalfa, and should realize an incremental earning opportunity compared to the way that they grow alfalfa today.”

Peterson says Roundup Ready Alfalfa provides growers with a greater application window than conventional herbicides, to allow more flexibility in their weed management practices.

“There’s some key benefits that go along with this system – superb weed control, crop safety, flexibility in application of herbicides – and that will translate into more yield and higher quality alfalfa for producers.”
Roundup Ready Alfalfa was developed by Monsanto in cooperation with Forage Genetics International, Inc. Research shows that using Roundup® agricultural herbicides with Roundup Ready Alfalfa allows improved management practices that lead to better-quality hay, which is good news for dairy producers.

The United States regulatory agencies granted full approval to alfalfa containing the Roundup Ready trait for commerce within the United States, including approval for marketing and consumption as food, food ingredients and feed for livestock. These products also have food and feed approval in Japan and Canada.

Roundup Ready Alfalfa is for sale and planting only in the United States, and not for the production of sprouts or seed.  Hay and hay products of Roundup Ready Alfalfa may only be exported to countries where regulatory approvals have been granted.  Always read and follow pesticide label directions. Roundup Ready crops contain genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup agricultural herbicides. Roundup agricultural herbicides will kill plants that are not tolerant to glyphosate.  Roundup and Roundup Ready are registered trademarks of Monsanto Technology LLC. (c) 2005 Monsanto Company.
