USDA GIPSA verifies EnviroLogix’ QuickStix kit for LibertyLink rice with a detection level of 1.33%
Portland, Maine
September 15, 2006

EnviroLogix Inc. announces the release of its QuickStix Kit for LibertyLink Rice, a lateral flow strip test to detect as little as 1.33% GMO content in a bulk rice grain sample.

Verified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA), the QuickStix Kit for LibertyLink Rice detects the presence of the Event LL601 protein at a threshold of 1 genetically modified seed in a pool of 75 non-transgenic seeds—the most sensitive rapid test on the market.

The kit will also detect 0.02% Event LL62 rice (1 LL62 seed in 5,000 non-transgenic seeds).  Since the protein expressed by these two events is the same, the test strips will not differentiate between them, but will serve as a cost-effective and timely screening tool.  Positive samples can be sent for PCR testing to determine which LibertyLink event is present, if necessary.

With its simple protocol and accurate results, producers storing rice, grain handlers moving rice, and rice processors have a fast and reliable tool to screen bulk loads.  Our Technical Services Department will be pleased to work with customers to tailor a sampling plan that will fit their specific needs.

The QuickStix Kit for LibertyLink Rice (Cat. No. AS 013 RB) contains strips and disposables for 100 tests.  Detailed information on the EnviroLogix kit is available at www.envirologix.com (click on Products, GMO Test Kits).
