As a result of the combined vision
and partnership between
SOYGENETICS and
Bayer CropScience, U.S. growers can anticipate planting
LibertyLink® soybean varieties in 2009.
SOYGENETICS, based in Lafayette, Indiana, a result of the
combined efforts of Limagrain
Genetics, Land O’Lakes
and FFR Cooperative, which
provides overall management.
“Our expansive research is focused on providing high-yielding
varieties that are also targeted to addressing the wide range of
agronomic needs that soybean growers have today,” says Frank
Spelbring, vice president of marketing for SOYGENETICS.
Representatives from Bayer CropScience agree. In regard to
LibertyLink soybeans, they say growers will have access to
varieties that have been adapted widely, and have demonstrated
yield and agronomic performance right with or better than the
best available commercial checks.
“In working with SOYGENETICS, we will be providing outstanding
varieties that will help growers succeed locally, within their
farms and communities, and also help the U.S. soybean industry
compete globally,” says Andy Hurst, Bayer CropScience product
manager for LibertyLink soybeans.
Along with providing top-yielding, elite genetics, LibertyLink
soybeans also will offer growers the opportunity to use the
in-crop, weed-control option available with Liberty herbicide,
Hurst notes.
Hurst says the Liberty/LibertyLink system will enable growers to
enjoy similar benefits of Roundup Ready, such as less tillage,
labor, and equipment, as well as the ease, convenience and
efficacy of over-the-top, non-selective, weed control. Liberty
herbicide also has the added benefit of being a highly effective
management tool for glyphosate-resistant or tolerant weeds.
“This technology will help growers manage their acres the way
they want to, both now and in the future,” Hurst says. “In the
process, they can count on achieving strong yield results along
with outstanding weed control. It’s a winning combination.”
