India: Wheat acreage goes up to 206 Lakh per hectare; Rabi sowing progressing well

As per data compiled by Agriculture Ministry as on today, sowing is progressing well in the present rabi season.

Wheat has been sown in 206.32 lakh ha as compared to 234.48 lakh ha during the corresponding period last year.

Winter rice sowing has started in some southern States. So far, 2.52 lakh ha area has come under rice plantation as against 2.58 lakh ha last year.

Coarse cereals have been sown in 60.38 lakh ha as compared to 61.74 lakh ha by this time in 2006.

Rabi oilseeds have been sown in 77.39 lakh ha as compared to 87.29 lakh ha in the last rabi. Mustard/rapeseed coverage has reached 57.25 lakh ha (last rabi, up to this time: 64.27 lakh ha).

Rabi pulses cover 113.49 lakh ha (last year: 121.46 lakh ha). Gram coverage has reached 70.76 lakh ha (vs. 75.95 lakh ha by this time last year).
