BASF Canada launches Altitude FX for Clearfield wheat - Broad-spectrum herbicide delivers unprecedented weed control
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
January 9, 2007

BASF Canada announced today the commercial availability of its newest, broad-spectrum herbicide, ALTITUDE FX®. Custom-designed for the CLEARFIELD® Production System for Wheat, ALTITUDE FX delivers one-pass control of all major grassy weeds as well as tough-to-beat broadleaf weeds.

“CLEARFIELD wheat is about bringing new value to wheat production for Western Canadian growers, and the addition of ALTITUDE FX is another way to drive this value,” says Scott Chapman, BASF CLEARFIELD brand manager. “ALTITUDE FX delivers the same great grass control as growers have come to expect from the CLEARFIELD wheat production system while also controlling chickweed, cleavers, hemp-nettle, and heavy populations of kochia and wild buckwheat.

Another benefit of this product is its extended application window of the 3 – 6 leaf stage.”

In addition to those mentioned above, ALTITUDE FX also controls other major broadleaf weeds, including
lamb’s-quarters, wild mustard, stinkweed, redroot pigweed, shepherd’s purse, flixweed, volunteer canola, volunteer flax, cow cockle, cocklebur, common burdock, prickly lettuce, vetch, wild radish and annual sunflower and common ragweed.

Grassy weeds controlled by ALTITUDE FX include green foxtail, yellow foxtail, wild oats, Persian darnel, barnyard grass, volunteer barley, volunteer canary seed, volunteer durum wheat, volunteer spring wheat (non-CLEARFIELD wheat only), and volunteer tame oats.

The CLEARFIELD Production System for Wheat is the first and only herbicide tolerant, one-pass weed control system available in wheat in Canada. This system was developed using traditional plant breeding methods and is recognized domestically and internationally as a non-genetically engineered crop.

The CLEARFIELD Production System for Wheat is comprised of custom-designed herbicides ALTITUDE FX and ADRENALIN(R) SC, and CDC Imagine wheat.
