The World Bank and the
International Finance Corporation (IFC), along with other donor
organizations, are currently implementing a number of projects
in the cotton industry of Tajikistan.
On May 30, 2007 the World Bank
Board of Directors endorsed a US$15 million credit to the
Republic of Tajikistan for a new Cotton Sector Recovery Project.
The Government of Tajikistan has recently issued a brochure
titled “New Opportunities for International Cotton Trade”
with support from the World Bank and the IFC. The brochure
outlines recent and planned reforms for the cotton sector in
Tajikistan and identifies opportunities for private sector
participation in the project activities in the ginning and
seed sectors.
