Latest developments and opportunities in the cotton industry of Tajikistan

.

Washington, DC
July 13, 2007

The World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), along with other donor organizations, are currently implementing a number of projects in the cotton industry of Tajikistan.

On May 30, 2007 the World Bank Board of Directors endorsed a US$15 million credit to the Republic of Tajikistan for a new Cotton Sector Recovery Project. The Government of Tajikistan has recently issued a brochure titled “New Opportunities for International Cotton Trade” with support from the World Bank and the IFC. The brochure outlines recent and planned reforms for the cotton sector in Tajikistan and identifies opportunities for private sector participation in the project activities in the ginning and seed sectors.

The brochure has been placed on the World Bank website and can be accessed via this link:

The ICAC Secretariat is distributing this information at the request of the World Bank.

The International Cotton Advisory Committee is an association of 43 governments of cotton producing and consuming countries.
