Pea, flax and lentil growers will
have access to a new Group 1 post-emergent graminicide for the
2007 growing
season. EQUINOX™ herbicide offers superior control of key grassy
weeds, including green foxtail and volunteer barley, as well as
application rate flexibility.
EQUINOX controls wild oats, green foxtail, volunteer barley and
volunteer wheat at the 40 or 60 acre per case rate when applied
at the 1- to 6-true-leaf stage of grassy weeds, up to two
tillers. EQUINOX controls quackgrass at the 32 acre per case
rate when applied at the 3- to 6-true-leaf stage.
"EQUINOX is setting a new standard for grass control in pea,
flax and lentil crops," says Chris Vander Kant, BASF western
herbicides brand manager. "Our research trials show that at
either rate EQUINOX provides, on average, 4 per cent better
control of volunteer barley and green foxtail compared to other
graminicides. At the 40 acre per case rate that amounts to 96
per cent control, which is significant for these
tough-to-beat weeds."
The new Group 1 active ingredient in EQUINOX is absorbed through
the leaves and rapidly translocated throughout the plant, right
to the rhizomes. Here it controls actively growing rhizome buds,
to eliminate spreading, as well as above-ground vegetation.
EQUINOX stops active weed growth within two days of application,
and provides complete control seven to 21 days after treatment.
"Flexibility and convenience are key features of EQUINOX," adds
Vander Kant. "In addition to rate flexibility, EQUINOX is
rainfast in just one hour and is conveniently packaged in two,
dual chambered no-glug jugs with enough active ingredient and
MERGE® surfactant to treat 40 or 60 acres."
For the 2007 growing season, EQUINOX will be available in
limited quantities from select retail locations.
