Organic Sun Mix with
Microclover is the newest environmentally-friendly, low cost
lawn option from DLF Organic.
Prior to World War II, the typical American lawn featured
clovers. The post war era gave birth to the chemical age and
doomed the legume’s role as a vital component of the all-natural
lawn. In this new age of sustainability,
DLF Organic has
re-introduced the legume into the American lawn with
Microclover.
Microclover is a far better looking plant than the clovers from
decades ago. It is an innovative turf-type clover that has the
ability to provide slow release nitrogen for a naturally greener
lawn all year long. It's like growing fertilizer. “This is an
easy, environmentally safe method to maintain a healthy green
lawn.” says Marlene Cable DLF Organic Development Specialist.
Europeans, who have very little access to lawn chemicals, have
continued the practice of introducing clovers into their lawns.
Why? A dense mix of grass and clover helps crowd out weeds and
will prevent new weeds from establishing. It also helps with
pest and disease resistance. Due to the dense structure of the
Microclover’s stolons, it can tolerate close mowing – without
using chemicals.
DLF Organic’s lawn seed mix is the most environmentally-friendly
home turf option on the market. The grass seed mix is
organically produced without chemicals and is USDA certified. As
a result of adding the Microclover into the lawn seed mixture,
the use of chemical fertilizer is nearly eliminated. By leaving
the mulched Microclover clippings on the lawn, a homeowner can
naturally supply all the food their lawn needs. This is
important because lawn care chemical usage accounts for more
pesticide and herbicide use than all agricultural and golf
course use in the United States. The key to environmentally
beneficial lawn care in the future, as it was in the past, is
the natural approach.
DLF Organic was formed by a small group of committed seed
enthusiasts in 2002 with a mission to provide the best available
seed while supporting sustainable agriculture. It is the only
seed company in the U.S. that carries a full line of USDA
certified organic forage, cover crop and lawn seed. |
