Tessenderlo Kerley, Inc.
(TKI) announced today the purchase of the Surround Crop
Protection business from BASF
Corporation, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
Surround is a patented kaolin clay-based particle film
technology that protects agricultural and horticultural crops
such as tree fruits, nuts and vegetables, from insects, sunburn
and heat stress. The product is a US EPA registered insecticide
and is OMRI listed for organic use. Introduced in 1999, Surround
is currently registered or approved for use in 19 countries.
The world-wide development and marketing of Surround will be
undertaken by TKI’s crop protection unit,
NovaSource™. NovaSource
is TKI’s business unit, charged with developing and marketing
EPA registered pesticides for niche crop protection and
specialty markets. According to Dave Cassidy, Group
Vice-President, “The acquisition of Surround is another step in
the planned expansion of the NovaSource product line. Surround
is one of the first of our targeted acquisitions destined to
become an important part of grower’s crop protection programs.”
Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Tessenderlo Kerley, Inc., headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona,
produces and markets specialty chemical solutions, including
fertilizers, soil fumigants and process chemicals and services
to diverse markets in the United States, Mexico, Central and
South America and selected European countries and the United
Kingdom. TKI operates nine manufacturing plants in North
America, in addition to an extensive terminal network. TKI is a
subsidiary of the Tessenderlo Group, Brussels, Belgium.
