Rasi Seeds Private Ltd. and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), both in India, have agreed to work together to develop genetically modified (GM) cassava plants with resistance to the cassava mosaic virus. The partners plan to employ an "indigenous" technology that was developed at Madurai Kamaraj University in India. Their research will be supported by the Indian Department of Biotechnology (DBT), under the small business innovation research initiative (SBIRI).
