Combined U.S. fall potatoes and Canadian potatoes up 1 percent

A report from Statistics Canada and USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS)

This publication is the result of a joint effort by Statistics Canada and USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) to publish potato production for both countries within one publication.  U.S. 2007 fall potato production was released November 9, 2007, and Canadian production and utilization was released November 23, 2007.

The 2007 fall potato production for the U.S. and Canada combined is forecast at 518 million cwt, up 1 percent from 2006 and 8 percent above two years ago. The U.S. fall potato production is forecast at 408 million cwt, 2 percent above the previous year and a 7 percent increase from 2005.  Canada’s potato growers expect to harvest 110 million cwt, a 2 percent decline from 2006 but 12 percent above 2 years ago.
