India: Sowing progressing well in the present rabi season

As per data compiled by Agriculture Ministry as on today, sowing is progressing well in the present rabi season.

Wheat has been sown in 146 lakh ha as compared to 80 lakh ha at the end of last week. However, it is yet low as compared to the acreage under wheat during the corresponding period last year [180 lakh ha].

Winter rice sowing has just started in some southern States. So far, 1.47 lakh ha area has come under the rice plantation. .

Coarse cereals have been sown in 54.21 lakh ha as compared to 58.36 lakh ha by this time in 2006.

Rabi oilseeds have been sown in 69.7 lakh ha as compared to 81.31 lakh ha in the last rabi.

Mustard/rapeseed coverage has reached 52.76 lakh ha (last rabi, up to this time: 61.31 lakh ha).

Rabi pulses cover 91.55 lakh ha (last year: 93.87 lakh ha).
