Pioneer offers 23 new soybean varieties for 2008

Des Moines, Iowa
October 17, 2007

Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, is adding 23 new soybean varieties to its lineup for 2008. These new Pioneer® brand soybean varieties offer growers protection against yield-robbing pests such as soybean cyst nematode (SCN), sudden death syndrome (SDS), Phytophthora root rot and brown stem rot (BSR).

"For 2008 we're excited to offer a strong class of new products that support all parts of the North American soybean market," says Don Schafer, Pioneer senior product line manager - soybeans. "The majority of these varieties are adapted across their respective maturity zones and display high performance along with solid agronomic stability."

Twenty-one of the new Pioneer soybean varieties contain the Roundup Ready® (RR) gene and offer impressive performance and yield protection.

New Pioneer variety 90M80 is a Group 0 variety that not only has the RR gene, but the Peking source for resistance against SCN.

"This high-yielding product gives Minnesota customers the ability to address the northern movement of SCN," says Schafer. "90M80 also offers Rps1c Phytophthora resistance and good Phytophthora field tolerance."

A new variety offering excellent yield performance and solid SDS tolerance is 91M80. This late Group I variety with the RR gene has Rps1k Phytophthora resistance and SCN resistance.

Yield and solid agronomics combine in both 92M11and 92M21. These new early Group II varieties with the RR gene offer the Peking source for SCN resistance, Rps1k Phytophthora resistance and frogeye leaf spot tolerance. These products will be offered across a wide geographic area in 2008 - from Iowa to Minnesota and east to Michigan.

92M53 is a regional product for northern Iowa customers that was developed with the new Accelerated Yield Technology (AYT). AYT uses proprietary molecular breeding techniques to rapidly scan and identify genes associated with increased yield. These genes then are incorporated into elite Pioneer soybean germplasm. Additional Pioneer soybean varieties developed with AYT may be advanced for 2008 planting, pending wide area product advancement trial results.

92M81 offers very good tolerance to BSR and SDS. In addition, this variety with the RR gene has SCN resistance, as well as the Rps1c Phytophthora resistance gene.

93M61 is an exciting new mid-Group III product that promises to be a very popular variety with a large number of growers - from Kansas and Nebraska in the West to Pennsylvania and Maryland in the East. This product features resistance to SCN and Phytophthora via the Rps1k gene plus tolerance to SDS, BSR and frogeye leaf spot.
