Siegers Seed Company announces companywide adoption of the Codes for Pest Organisms in Vegetable Crops recommended by the International Seed Federation

.

Holland, Michigan
October 30, 2007

Siegers Seed Company is known for trendsetting in the seed industry, so it’s no surprise that they have adopted a companywide adaptation to the International Seed Federation’s (ISF) Recommended Codes for Pest Organisms in Vegetable Crops.

This listing of codes is reviewed and updated yearly by the Working Group established by the ISF Vegetable and Ornamental Crops Section. Additionally, it is available for review on the Siegers Seed Company website as well as the International Seed Foundation’s website under the footer of Phytosanitary Matters or more specifically at www.worldseed.org/pdf/Codes_2006.pdf under “codes for pest organisms”.

Owner and President, Rick Siegers states that “these codes can be confusing and difficult to translate. We do our very best to make things as easy for our growers as possible. By adopting these worldwide recognized codes, we will standardize all coding in our advertising, marketing and sales. This standardization will keep consistency in our everyday presentation of resistances / tolerances in the vast number of varieties that we offer to the commercial vegetable growers. In the past, different vendors have used different nomenclatures to represent different diseases. It was tough for the commercial grower to keep up with who calls what disease what. This will end that confusion. Now, regardless of the vendor, our growers can compare “apples to apples” with varieties that they are choosing for proper slotting in their seasonal planting programs. We hope that our conversion to this standardization will encourage other commercial seed distributors, vendors and breeder/producers to follow suit.”
