SAHIN, Zaden B.V. announced today the acquisition by Takii
of a 100% share in Sahin. Takii is a Japanese company that
breeds, produces and sells vegetable and flower varieties since
1835. K. SAHIN, Zaden B.V. is a relatively young, dynamic flower
seed company that was established in 1982 by Kees and Elisabeth
Sahin. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. By
acquiring Sahin, Takii will strengthen its position in flower
breeding worldwide and specifically in Europe. Sahin will
complement Takii’s European business, with own breeding
facilities, a broad gene bank, and complementary consumer market
clients. Sahin has made a positive step towards the expansion of
its business that will benefit from Takii’s financial and
technical strengths.
Denichi Takii, President of Takii & Co., Ltd. believes that both
companies will benefit in many ways: “I am quite positive about
the acquisition of Sahin. I am confident that it will result in
an excellent synergy of the two companies’ strength. Takii’s
breeding technologies and Sahin’s broad spectrum of genetic
resources will combine to benefit both companies, providing a
unique base for breeding completely new varieties for
professional and consumer markets”.
Elisabeth Sahin, Managing Director of K. SAHIN, Zaden B.V.
believes that the wide product assortment which her late
husband, the breeders and herself passionately developed, will
become a strong platform, from which Takii can build the Sahin
brand. “Sahin has bred exciting new classes of professional
products, which are ready for introduction. Takii’s strength in
sales and technology would be a strong party to take these
products successfully into the international market”.
Takii & Co., Ltd., founded in 1835, specializes in vegetable
and flower seed varieties. Takii maintains the leading position
in tomato, carrot, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, radish, onion and
many other species for the world vegetable seed markets. Its
flower varieties such as dianthus, pansy, sunflower, zinnia and
ornamental brassica are also being used worldwide. Takii has
approximately 100 breeders and researchers and 6 research
stations in Japan. In Europe, Takii is situated in The
Netherlands and France. At Takii Europe B.V. in De Kwakel, The
Netherlands, all commercial and logistic activities for Europe
have been centralized. Takii Europe B.V. is also breeding
vegetable crops for Northern Europe and screening flower and
vegetable varieties released by other Takii’s breeding programs
for its suitability under European conditions.
K. SAHIN, Zaden B.V. was established in 1982 by Kees and
Elisabeth Sahin. Sahin is known worldwide as a dynamic flower
breeder. Sahin’s signature achievement has been the successful
introduction of new species and novel genetic traits previously
unknown to the market. Sahin is a trendsetter in the ornamental
business and offers a wide range of innovative products. These
include several award winners, for the professional and the
consumer market. Sahin’s main breeding activities are in F1
hybrid Delphinium, sunflowers, violas, a large range of first
