As part of the "food chain
partnership" Bayer
CropScience supports the "Eat in Colour" campaign initiated
by the British Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC). The campaign was
developed to build confidence and to initiate a significant and
sustainable increase in consumption of fresh food and
vegetables. "Eat in Colour promotes the simple message that
fruit and vegetable are the quick, easy, tasty and inexpensive
route to healthier eating", said Michael Velasco, President of
the FPC. "Bayer CropScience supports this education program
because healthy nutrition is vital for the well-being of every
human being", explained Patrick Mitton, Food Industry Manager at
Bayer CropScience in UK. Bayer CropScience is making available
its wide-ranging expertise in plant health and harvest quality
to produce high-quality fruit and vegetable as a basis or a
healthy nutrition. The company is fully committed to Integrated
Crop Management (ICM), sustainable agriculture and transparent
production processes, ensuring traceability of food from field
to fork.
Add colour to every meal
The FPC is a trade association which represents producers,
packers, importers, wholesalers, food services, retailers and
floral within the UK fresh produce and floral industry. "Eat in
Colour means enjoying the amazing variety of convenience food",
explained President Velasco. This year the initiative will
include a focus on workplaces in the mission to encourage higher
consumption of fruits and vegetables.
Launched in January 2007, "Eat in Colour" has generated
considerable response. One major success with consumers has been
a road show that visited holiday parks around the coast of
Britain, offering samples of tasty fruit and vegetable snacks to
holiday makers. Another element of the campaign is the internet
presence under www.eatincolour.com. An easy to navigate website
contains cooking tips, serving suggestions, nutritional data and
much more.
A partnership for consumers
"The quality-conscious consumer asks for good food at a
reasonable price", commented Patrick Mitton. All the players in
the food chain partnership are doing their best to ensure high
quality and day-to-day availability of produce the consumer
wants to buy at any time of the year. Working in partnership
with farmers, processors, retailers and wholesalers, Bayer
CropScience strives to build mutually beneficial relationships.
The company acts as a facilitator bringing together the various
partners to work on sustainable crop solutions.
