New fungicides offer unsurpassed
activity on head scab, rust and other major cereal diseases,
while improving yield potential and quality
Two new fungicides from BASF
recently received registration from the Environmental Protection
Agency
(EPA) for use on cereals, providing growers with broad-spectrum
activity on rust, head scab and other major cereal diseases.
Caramba™ fungicide, the first fungicide registered, provides
activity against head scab. The second fungicide registered for
use by the EPA is a premix fungicide product containing the
active ingredients pyraclostrobin, the same active ingredient in
Headline® fungicide, and metconazole. With the addition of
Caramba and the premix fungicide, BASF continues to strengthen
its portfolio of wheat fungicides. State registrations or
specific crop and or pest uses may still be pending in certain
states.
Caramba fungicide registered for use on wheat head scab
A highly-effective fungicide containing the active ingredient
metconazole, Caramba provides excellent activity against head
scab, one of the most destructive wheat diseases that, if left
uncontrolled, can cause tremendous losses by reducing grain
yield and quality.
“Already available in Europe and South America, Caramba is the
worldwide leading product for head scab and is now available to
United States growers as a solo product and as a premix with the
world’s strongest strobilurin, pyraclostrobin,” said Jerry
Minore, Senior Market Manager, fungicides, for BASF. Headline
also contains the active ingredient pyraclostrobin. Caramba will
be available for immediate use, pending state registrations.
Powerful premix fungicide registered for use on cereals
The premix fungicide combines the active ingredients
pyraclostrobin and metconazole. With two powerful modes of
action and curative activity, the premix fungicide provides
broad-spectrum activity against rust and other major cereal
diseases.
Combining two robust active ingredients into one, the
easy-to-use premix formulation when applied at flag leaf, offers
cereal growers unsurpassed control of destructive cereal
diseases while improving Plant Health - increased growth
efficiency, improved stress tolerance and harvestability.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to provide superior products
that are backed by quality research, including Headline, BASF
has conducted wheat field trials with the premix fungicide; and
this year BASF is supporting a large-scale demonstration plot
project in wheat,” said Amber Shirley, Ph.D., Technical Service
Specialist for BASF. “Growers will be able to see first hand on
their own farms how the fungicide protects wheat from diseases
and provides Plant Health benefits. These plots, in addition to
continuing research efforts by BASF, allow BASF to provide
growers with the best recommendations on how to use fungicides
with confidence to protect crops and increase yields.”
Caramba and the premix fungicide strengthen BASF’s current wheat
fungicide portfolio, which now includes Headline, Caramba and
the premix fungicide.
With a broad portfolio of fungicides for every cereal fungicide
need, BASF continues to provide growers with the tools needed to
help growers get the most out of every acre.
