The 28th of April the official
opening of the new De
Ruiter Seeds site in Shougang (province of Shandong) in
China took place. The screening- and demonstration site is built
in co-operation with distributor Tiajin Derit Seeds. At the
official opening the board of directors of De Ruiter Seeds, some
local authorities and a few sub distributors were present.
Official opening
After years of collaboration with local Chinese representatives
it was decided in 2007 to build a joint screening- and
demonstration site in co-operation with distributor Tiajin Derit
Seeds. On April 28th the new site was officially opened. At the
opening the board of directors, some local authorities and sub
distributors were present.

Anticipating growth
The opening of our own Chinese site is important for De Ruiter
Seeds. China has the largest market for consumption and
production of vegetables. The Chinese currently grow vegetables
to provide for their own needs and to supply local markets. But
the Chinese economy and the economy of the surrounding countries
is growing and so is the demand for high-quality vegetables.
With this new site De Ruiter Seeds will be able to grow along
with the economy and to screen young plant material much faster.
What’s more, we can strengthen contacts with growers,
sub-distributors and the government by showing the most suitable
varieties in the demo-greenhouse.
Perfect location
After thorough research De Ruiter Seeds decided to build a
demonstration greenhouse in Shougang in the province of
Shandong. Shandong is in the southeast of China, beneath Bejing.
The region is, compared to other Chinese regions, well developed
economically and there are many year-round protected
cultivations in the area. Another advantage is that the climate
is perfect. Furthermore our demo-greenhouse is located near a
major vegetable sales centre. These vegetables are intended for
distribution inside and outside China.
De Ruiter Seeds breeds, produces and sells hybrid vegetable
seeds for top products in tomato, cucumber, aubergine, pepper,
melon and rootstock. De Ruiter Seeds is one of the top breeding
