Barley variety guide for Western Australia 2008

.

Western Australia
August 6, 2008

A 'Barley Variety Guide for Western Australia 2008' has been developed with GRDC support by a DAFWA team comprising Jeff Russell, Blakely Paynter and Andrea Hills.

Mr Russell said the Guide was a quick reference for growers to determine which varieties of barley best suited their region.

"The decision whether to grow barley for malting or feed depends on five main factors, which are addressed in the Guide," he said.

These included: premium paid for malting grade varieties; relative yields of feed versus malting barleys; differences in input costs due to agronomy and disease constraints; likelihood that malting barley would meet receival specifications and the location of receival segregations for malt barley varieties.

The Guide, also known as Farmnote 312, is available for download and printing from the DAFWA website on www.agric.wa.gov.au
