Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
December 5, 2008

BASF Plant Science today announced that Rich Lutz has joined the company as a Forage Specialist in the Upper Northeast region. In this position, he will be responsible for building relationships and providing support for key NutriDense seed partners. Lutz will also be working directly with dairy producers, managers and nutritionists to share the improved benefits of feeding corn silage made from NutriDense hybrids. His territory will include New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan.

“Rich has a strong background in technical sales and service of forage products and we're excited to have him join us," said Kyle McMillan, NutriDense Sales Manager for BASF. "With extensive experience in product support and strong account management skills, he will be a great asset to our company. He also has a broad understanding of the dairy industry in the Northeast region that will greatly benefit BASF Plant Science and our customers."

Lutz has 24 years experience in the seed and feed industry, with 22 years at Pioneer Hi-Bred International in the Upper Northeast as a Forage Specialist, primarily working with large dairies and key Pioneer sales staff. Prior to joining the BASF Plant Science Team, he was employed by Novus International as a Ruminant Account Manager, calling on nutritionists and feed mills in the Northeast United States.

Lutz graduated from Delaware Valley College of Science & Agriculture with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dairy Husbandry. He also received his Master of Science degree in Animal Industries at the University of Connecticut.
He currently resides in Harleysville, Pennsylvania.

NutriDense® is a nutritionally enhanced corn that contains a stacked set of output traits designed to enhance animal feed performance. Seed companies market the product through licensing agreements.

NutriDense silage hybrids can increase silage tonnage, milk production and per acre profitability for dairy producers. NutriDense silage hybrids can deliver high yields and increase milk production by up to 2.9 lbs./head/day.

For swine producers, hybrids containing NutriDense can improve profits by up to $4 per marketed hog by reducing feed costs and or improving feed efficiency. NutriDense is also higher in protein and all essential amino acids than many conventional corn hybrids.

BASF consolidated its plant biotechnology activities in BASF Plant Science in 1998. Today, about 700 employees are working to optimize crops for more efficient agriculture, renewable raw materials and healthier nutrition for humans and animals. Projects include yield increase in staple crops, higher content of Omega-3s in oil crops for preventing cardiovascular diseases, and potatoes with optimized starch composition for industrial use.
