Bayer CropScience announces 2008 shared risk program for U.S. cotton growers

.

Lubbock, Texas
January 9, 2008

Bayer CropScience announces details for its 2008 Shared Risk Program, which encourages use of Best Management Practices in cotton production. The program benefits growers because it shares in grower risk of replanting Bayer CropScience cottonseed brands or loss of the final cotton planting due to certain weather events.

Shared Risk coverages include:

  • Replanting with FiberMax®, Stoneville® and/or AFD™ cotton seed
  • Retreating cottonseed varieties originally planted with Aeris® insecticide/nematicide seed treatment, Temik® insecticide/nematicide, Trilex™ Advanced Seed-Applied System or Gaucho® Grande seedapplied insecticide
  • Crop loss for LibertyLink® technology and for using Ignite® herbicide on LibertyLink cotton
  • Use of Stance® plant growth regulator on FiberMax, Stoneville and AFD lost to crop loss

“This program shows the commitment of Bayer CropScience to share in the annual risks associated with cotton production,” says Lee Rivenbark, director of U.S. cotton operations. “Every year presents new challenges, and this program is available as a resource to growers if the need arises.”

The program outlines replant deadlines based on geographic locations. In areas of Texas south of Interstate 10, the replant program period is through May 15, 2008, with claims received by Bayer CropScience on or before June 1, 2008. For the remaining Cotton Belt geographies, the period is through July 1, 2008, with claims received on or before July 15, 2008.

Separate deadlines are detailed for crop loss for FiberMax LibertyLink cotton seed and Ignite herbicide. The program period for the Mid-South, Southeast, Atlantic, California and Arizona regions run through Aug. 10, 2008, with claims received on or before Aug. 25, 2008. Areas of Texas south of I-10 have a program period through July 31, 2008, with claims received on or before Aug. 15, 2008. The program period for remaining Southwest geography areas is through Aug. 31, 2008, with claims received on or before Sept. 15, 2008. However, the crop loss program period for Stance for all geographies is through Nov. 15, 2008, with claims received on or before Dec. 1, 2008.
